Sports Betting in Ohio
Ohio is one of the states that still legalized sports betting. However, following recent developments, this is likely to change as Bill HB29 is approved by both the Full House and the Senate.
The bill is now due to be signed by Governor Mike DeWine by the end of the year, so that Ohio can distribute sports betting licenses to all sports betting that want to start in the state in April at the earliest.
With that in mind, it seems that those in Buckeye State won’t have to wait long before they can bet on sports.
Frequently asked questions about sports betting in Ohio
Are Sports Betting Legal in Ohio?
Unfortunately, sports betting is still not legal in Ohio, but that will change very soon after HB29 is approved by both the House and Senate and the bill may be signed as early as this week.
Should that happen, Ohio will be able to issue sports betting licenses starting April 1, with the state welcoming sports betting on its shores by late 2022 or early 2023 at the latest.
Potential online sports betting sites in Ohio
While Ohio locals still can’t bet on sports in their state, it is unclear how many sports bets will be available in the state once sports bets go into effect.
Sports betting like BetMGM, DraftKings, and Caesars are all expected to be some of the best sports betting apps available on Ohio’s grid on launch day.
After the US sports betting market took by storm, the online sports betting and betting app BetMGM expanded into new markets, offering fantastic deals on a wide variety of sports.
Given BetMGM’s presence in the rest of the US, it won’t come as a surprise that BetMGM will be available to Ohioans once the green light is given for sports betting licenses.
Originally launched in the fantasy sports market, DraftKings allowed users to make money based on individual player performance.
Since its launch in New Jersey in 2018, DraftKings Sportsbook has served a number of states, four of which border Ohio. With DraftKings’ presence known across Ohio, it is very likely that DraftKings will be available in Ohio once the Sports Betting Act is passed.
When it comes to gambling in the US, Caesars are one of the most famous names. The name is derived from the famous “Caesars Palace” in Las Vegas, one of the most famous casinos in the country.
With Caesars now having a world-class sports betting company following its acquisition of William Hill earlier this year, Caesars plans to enter the Ohio market and offer their services as soon as sports betting is legalized.
In which neighboring countries is there legal online betting?
Four of the five neighboring states of Ohio offer legal bets. Indiana, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia all have legal online wagering options available to customers.
Are Sports Betting Retail Stores Operating in Ohio?
Unfortunately, there are currently no sports betting retail outlets available. Once the bill is passed, it is anticipated that sports betting will be available in retail stores in Ohio.
Ohio already has 11 operating casinos, so it is likely that many will apply for sports betting licenses.
Latest news on sports betting in Ohio
With Ohio’s Sports Betting Bill HB 29 approved by the Senate in June, and following recent activity, the bill is now expected to come into effect before the end of the year.

After signing this bill, Ohio may come to power on Jan.
Ohio Sports Betting History
Senate Act 176 was introduced in May 2021 and several hearings were held very quickly with the goal of June 30 for approval.
In mid-June, after a plethora of amendments, the bill became HB 29, which was submitted to the Senate and approved a day later.
Many in Ohio were hoping for sports betting to be legalized ahead of the football season. Unfortunately, the legislature missed the June 30th deadline and moved the date to autumn.

Once that happens, Ohio should be able to issue sports betting licenses in April, with the state now considering rolling out sports betting on its shores by the end of 2022.

With big cities like Cleveland, Cincinnati, and Columbus, there is no shortage of professional sports teams. Ohio has professional baseball, basketball, soccer, hockey, and soccer teams, as well as a number of successful college sports teams.

You can bet on all Cavaliers games of the season, including wagering that Cleveland will win the Eastern Conference, NBA championship and qualification for the playoffs.
