An Onondaga County man who got his first Covid-19 shot last December is one of five grand prize winners of a New York state sweepstakes aimed at raising state-wide vaccination rates among hunting and fishing enthusiasts.

The man, referred to only as Ryan W. in an official announcement, chose the ‘Turkey Hunter Prize Package,’ which includes:

  • A lifetime sportsman license
  • High-quality ground blind
  • Turkey hunting vest
  • Hen decoy pair
  • Shotgun optical sight
  • Slate call
  • 10×42 binoculars

The other grand prize winners selected prize packages that also included lifetime sportsman, fishing, or hunting licenses, in addition to gear suitable for freshwater fishing, bowhunting, or rifle hunting. Each package is valued at approximately $2,000.

A total of 436 New Yorkers entered the drawing after receiving their first COVID-19 vaccine dose in December 2021. All entrants received a tree seedling, a $25 gift card, and a one-year subscription to Conservationist Magazine.
